2016: Welcome Home Angel of Wilmington, NC

In 2016, the Pink Ladies were thrilled to support Welcome Home Angel, a non- profit organization that “creates a home bedroom makeover for children who have been hospitalized suffering from a devastating illness or injury.”  Welcome Home angel targets “children 4 through 18 from primarily low and middle income families who live in a 25 mile radius of Wilmington, NC.”  In addition to creating a cheerful healing space for the child in need, mini-makeovers are given to siblings’ rooms as well, to make sure they feel included in the care of the whole family. The Pink Ladies had a ball doing a full home makeover for one very deserving family of 6. With lots of hard work, volunteer time and over $12,000 in renovations we couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome. We think you will be too! http://www.welcomehomeangel.com/

2015: The Miracle League of Wilmington, NC

“The Miracle League provides children and adults with special needs the opportunity to play baseball.  Players play on an ADA approved synthetic rubber turf field accessible for players using wheelchairs, walkers, and who have visual impairment.” And true to form, the Pink Ladies are starting the year off with a bang! We are the title sponsors for the 2nd Annual Miracles in Motion on February 28th, the only all- inclusive 5K run, walk, and Roll and 1 mile course through the park that is fully accessible to persons in wheelchairs and walkers.  We are thrilled to offer our financial support  to the Miracle League (made possible by are awesome sponsors!), but more so to make many new buddies as we volunteer our time and energy to this wonderful organization.

2014: New Hanover County Special Olympics NC

New-Image2013-287x300After putting food into New Hanover County childrens’ bellies with NourishNC in 2012, supporting the fight against Breast Cancer in 2013, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with  Special Olympics in 2014!!!!  At our Signup Social, we welcomed a New Hanover County Special Olympics representative as well as a local athlete who spoke together and further inspired us.  Dustin, the athlete, let us know that he is currently training for his first 5K- the Polar Plunge, 5K, and 1 mile Fun Run, and in response we let them know that we are proud to “dive in” ……. The Pink Ladies were Silver Sponsors of the event on February 22 in Carolina Beach.  What a perfect pair- The Pink Ladies and Special Olympics, whose motto is “Let me win.  But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”    For some of us, it’s not about getting there first or winning this year, if ever.  It’s about getting out there, being brave, and getting it done!  Feels like 2014’s gonna be the best year yet!

2013: Breast Cancer Support & Awareness

It’s a natural fit! In 2013, we have chosen to dedicate our Pink Power to all efforts aimed at fighting Breast Cancer, supporting those who are battling it, and helping to prevent it. The Pink Ladies will be offered many volunteer opportunities in our area, supporting the Pink Ribbon Project, the Race for the Cure, the Ta-Ta Chaser, and the Pretty in Pink Foundation just to get started. All Pink Ladies are all encouraged to stand up and make their voices heard about any ways to support these or other Pink projects. With our power in numbers and strength of character, we anticipate that we will draw even more attention to the fight against breast cancer, help champion those who are battling it, and hopefully spread the word about self breast exams.

2012: Nourish NC

nourishnc_standard_logoNourishNC’s mission is to strengthen community resources that connect children to healthy food and reduce food insecurity. Currently serving 10 local schools, they empower children to succeed in the classroom and community alike. Go to www.nourishnc.org for more information or to make a donation.
We have chosen this as our annual charity because WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! WE CAN DONATE BOTH FINANCIALLY (thanks Brrrberry, thus far) AND OUR TIME. We can pack backpacks and that takes place every other Wednesday night at Murray Middle School. Be sure to check our online calendar for regular and last minute times to volunteer.
The wonderful people at NourishNC are so thankful for helpful, capable hands to participate in the assembly line of packing these “backpacks” for the children in the program. It is truly a wonderful opportunity to get children involved if you choose; however, be prepared to supervise them and ensure they pack the backpacks properly.
